Night Running Season Is Here!

As the days grow shorter and the sun slips away earlier and earlier, there’s one thing I secretly look forward to every fall: night runs through Davis. There’s something magical about them: quiet streets, twinkly porch lights, and that crisp evening air that makes every breath feel fresh and new.
A few weeks ago I had my first official night run of the season. At only 5 PM, it was already so dark. I laced up my sneakers and was about to head out the door before I realized I had forgotten the most important gear: lights, reflective windbreakers, and extra water.
Classic me.
I went back inside and came out like a tiny reflective astronaut lol.
But here’s the thing: night runs are some of my absolute favorites only because I treat safety like part of the ritual. Glowing like a Christmas tree is non-negotiable. I don’t go out unless I’m visible, hydrated, and alert—because the best runs are the runs you finish, the ones where you come home feeling proud and a little bit sparkly inside.
Once everything was in place, I finally stepped into the cool Davis evening. The city felt softer, quieter, almost like it was letting me in on a secret. Each stride felt lighter than the last, and I remembered exactly why I love running after sunset; it turns the whole world into my own little adventure.
So here’s to night-run season: to glowing gear, to safe strides, and to the joy of finding magic in the dark.
